We suggest you replace builder-grade a garage door roller every two years since the lack of ball bearings causes them to wear out quickly. If your builder-grade garage door rollers are worn out, you’ll hear a squeaking sound when you open and close your garage door.
Upgraded Garage Doors
Upgraded garage door rollers are typically made out of nylon and they include ball bearings (open or sealed). We suggest you lubricate all open bearing rollers 4x a year. Depending on the exact design and type of rollers your door has, they can last anywhere from two years to the lifetime of your garage door.
Inspecting Your Garage Door Roller

- If your rollers make any kind of grinding sound or they stop spinning smoothly, it’s time to have your rollers replaced.
- If your rollers wiggle or appear to be improperly attached to the shaft, your rollers should be replaced.
- If any part of your roller is cracked or you see that pieces of it are missing, you should have it replaced.
